ELAUWIT ADDS SUN SPOTS IN THREE NEW LOCATIONS

Elauwit continues to expand its digital footprint along the Eastern seaboard. Over the past three weeks, the company has launched three Web sites dedicated to providing hyperlocal news content to three additional metropolitan regions: Staten Island, N.Y., the Southern New Jersey suburbs of Philadelphia, and Columbia, S.C. Called Sun Spots, these online communities are portals of information for residents who want to know everything that’s going on in their region.

“People are turning to the Internet to discover news about their hometowns at continually increasing rates, and we are excited to be the provider of that content for more and more regions,” said Alan Bauer, Elauwit’s general manager, Media. “We plan to continue to add new communities in the near future.”

The new Sun Spots can be found at the following URLs:

Staten Island: http://si.sunne.ws

Southern New Jersey: http://sj.sunne.ws

Columbia: http://columbia.sunne.ws

Elauwit has plans to launch additional Sun Spots in the metro regions of Brooklyn, N.Y., Greenville, S.C., and Charleston, S.C., in the near future. For a full list of current and planned Sun Spots, visithttp://sunne.ws.

Apartments and MDU

Digital Video

Direct to the home
Many property owners are concerned with the number of satellite dishes on their property. We offer a solution by consolidating multiple units into a single dish array, shared by other Elauwit Networks subscribers on the property or in the same building. Elauwit Networks owns and maintains this hardware and provides local support to the residents. Residents are billed by the digital video service provider for the services they use.

Digital Bulk
Elauwit Networks provides a base digital package (each resident has a digital set-top box) at a discounted rate to the property owner/HOA management, who is invoiced  for bulk service provided by Elauwit Networks. Residents may choose to upgrade individual services and are then billed for those upgrades directly by the digital video service provider.*

Analog Bulk
Provides a base analog package at a discounted rate to the property owner/HOA management, who is invoiced  for bulk service provided by Elauwit Networks; some system designs offer residents the option to upgrade individually at their own discretion and they are then billed  for these upgrades directly by the digital video service provider.* The signal is distributed via a head-end system where the property owner/HOA chooses which channels to offer.

*Billed through our satellite provider for that area

A Lesson on Being Casually Late

As well delve into the world of blogging, there may come some confusion as to our late entrance. You see, when you’re going to a party, you just don’t show up right at the beginning when no one is there; you come a little later.

Well, we decided to do that with our new blog. Time will only tell what’s in store for our blog entries but we are going to make a sweeping generalization that it’ll be fun, entertaining and of course habitual.

So without further or do, here is our glorious entrance to the party. Now, where’s the punch?

iPad and ESPN3 Arrive on Same Day

Normally April 3 will pass by as a normal Saturday during the year, but with the anticipation of the arrival of the iPad and ESPN360.com becoming ESPN3, it’s no longer a normal day.

How the iPad Affects Us

So you maybe wondering, why or how does this affect Elauwit Networks? Well for one, a couple of our employees will be getting the iPad and it will become a fight to stand in line as we get turns putting our greasy hands over the nice display Apple has provided. And with the arrival of the iPad means a new generation of electronic devices solely devoted to a truly hands-on experience. Our designs, attitude and overall ways of creating or viewing a website will now be changed to experiencing everything “hands-on”. Like every great product, there will be many different versions of the iPad, but even for the first version, it’s something we are looking forward to.

ESPN360 will be ESPN3

ESPN360.com (old site) ESPN3.com (new site)

Another popular event will be the introduction of ESPN360′s redesign to ESPN3. The mega sports network is revamping its current website to bring on more sports and a better interface. Now that the redesign is coming, it’ll be very soon that ESPN also unveils their 3D channel, which will be available for 3D enabled televisions and with certain service providers. But in the mean time, we can enjoy the free online content of ESPN3, showing you hi-quality videos of your favorite sports teams and even replays of past events. With over 3,000 sporting events shown online each year, you should be bugging your internet service provider for ESPN3 access or signing up for the ESPN3(60) package with Elauwit Networks.

Borrowing your neighbor’s wireless? You’re not the only one.

A recent study by the Wi-Fi alliance, a non-profit organization, has shown that Americans are reluctantly sharing their wireless signal with their members. The poll shows an increase of up to 32 percent of wireless users were tapping into the free internet provided by their lovely neighbor, which was around 18 percent in 2009.

The study also shows that people are more likely to trust someone with their house key before giving another person, even a neighbor, their wireless network key. It’s a weird shift in the general public who may have a distorted idea on how or why it is important to keep your wireless network private.

Kelly Davis-Felner, marketing director for the Wi-Fi Alliance, says “Most consumers know that leaving their Wi-Fi network open is not a good thing, but the reality is that many have not taken the steps to protect themselves. Consumers can usually activate Wi-Fi security protections in a few simple steps, but much like the seatbelts in your car – it won’t protect you unless you use it.”

The Golden Age Of Technology

Remember the Gameboy? What about the Talkboy? Old technology is both funny and awesome; not only is it great to reminisce about what used to be, back in the “glory days” of technology, but it’s hilarious to see where we used to be, back when we thought we were modern.

Looking forward, the “cutting edge” products out right now (Google Buzz, The Droid and iPhone, etc.) are really just going to be clanky, annoying, funny and outdated “has-beens” — and for some, in just a year or two worth of time.

Modern becomes vintage seemingly overnight, as the new modern takes its place. Modernity, like time, is forever moving, changing, continuing without end. Ok, enough with the philosophy.

[Want modern? Check out the cool, modern, and community-oriented things we are doing withbroadband internet penetration at Elauwit Solutions.]

So with that, take a look at this article from Web Designer Depot. With the exception of my two favorite vintage technologies (the aforementioned Gameboy and Talkboy), this is an all-inclusive list of some of the funniest and most awesome vintage technologies that we don’t use anymore. Remember when the Discman was popular?

So tell us – what was left off the list? What vintage technologies would you add?
